DANVILLE — By a wide margin, Republican voters in Vermilion County picked attorney Tom O'Shaughnessy as their nominee for the race for Vermilion County recorder of deeds this fall.

URBANA — Democrat George Danos will face Republican John Farney in November for Champaign County auditor after Danos won a three-way primary race on Tuesday.

The winner in the general election will succeed Champaign Democrat Tony Fabri, who chose not to run again after one term as auditor.

Nolan wins GOP race for prosecutor

It was a close race, but incumbent Douglas County State's Attorney Kevin Nolan successfully defended his seat against challenger Tammy Baer. Nolan won 54.2 percent of the Republican vote, with 1,751 votes, while Baer garnered 45.8 percent, with 1,477 votes.

Fields set for Champaign County Board races

URBANA — The field for this fall's Champaign County Board elections became clearer Tuesday night as Republicans nominated candidates in Districts 1 and 3 and Democrats selected candidates in Districts 7 and 11.

Republicans John Jay and Gary Maxwell won a three-way race over Gerald W. Smith for two seats in District 1. The winners will face Democrat Eric Thorsland in the fall.

Winkel, not running, beats Holderfield

URBANA — Rick Winkel, who withdrew from the race for Champaign County Circuit Court Clerk weeks ago, was the winner Tuesday in a stunning Republican primary victory over Stephanie Holderfield of Mahomet.

Winkel got 8,133 votes to 7,888 for Holderfield, a county board member form Mahomet.
