A few days before Election Day, the Democratic primary in the 13th Congressional District has finally come to life.

County candidates seeking office, nothing more

CHAMPAIGN — None of the Democratic candidates for either Champaign County auditor or clerk of the circuit court has any ambitions beyond those offices, they said in a candidate forum Wednesday night.

Johnson endorses Barickman

NORMAL — U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson on Thursday threw his support behind Jason Barickman in the 53rd Senate District race against incumbent state Sen. Shane Cultra, R-Onarga.

The congressman noted that he had endorsed Cultra before, when the latter was challenged in an Illinois House race by Champaign firefighter Dave Tomlinson.

After warning, Cultra moves Normal campaign office to different building

ONARGA — State Sen. Shane Cultra acknowledged Wednesday that he ran a campaign office out of a public building owned by the Town of Normal, but said he had been told doing so would be all right.

That's not quite the way Normal's city manager remembers it.

Since then, however, Cultra has moved his political office out of the building in downtown Normal.

Durbin backs Goetten over Gill

DECATUR -- U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin on Saturday endorsed Matt Goetten over David Gill in the 13th Congressional District Democratic primary election.

Goetten, 40, is state's attorney in Greene County, southwest of Durbin's Springfield home. Gill, a Bloomington emergency room physician, has run for Congress on three occasions and lost all three times to U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Urbana.

Five sheriffs endorse Barickman over Cultra

BLOOMINGTON — Five of the six county sheriffs in the newly drawn 53rd Senate District have endorsed state Rep. Jason Barickman, R-Champaign, over Sen. Shane Cultra, R-Onarga, in the March 20 primary election.
