SPRINGFIELD — Almost all of the candidates who had been expected to file for state legislative seats this fall did so on Monday, the first day to submit petitions with the Illinois State Board of Elections.
DANVILLE — More than 25 candidates filed nominating petitions in the Vermilion County Clerk's office on Monday, the first day that candidates can file for the March primary ballot that will include races for five countywide offices and all 27 county board seats.
PAXTON — A random drawing will be held to determine the ballot placement of eight candidates for the Ford County Board in the March 2012 Republican primary election.

CARROLLTON -- After saying two weeks ago that he would not be a candidate for Congress, Greene County State's Attorney Matt Goetten announced Thursday that he will take on Bloomington physician David Gill for the Democratic nomination in the 13th Congressional District.
"He is in it 100 percent," said spokesman Dan Herkert. "We will be touring the district in the next two weeks."
One of these days, the race for the Democratic nomination in the 13th Congressional District will settle down.
But that might not occur until Dec. 5, the last date for candidates in Illinois to file nominating petitions for congressional races.
DECATUR -- About two years after he first called for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Urbana, now appears to be gaining the support of his constituents.
URBANA -- Rick Winkel, a former state legislator and county board member, said today he will be a Republican candidate for Champaign County circuit court clerk.
Incumbent Circuit Clerk Linda Frank, also a Republican, said she will retire after 20 years in office to "take on new challenges and seek new opportunities."
