Illini duo advances to main draw
The Illinois doubles team of Gavin Sontag and Jeff Laski advanced to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory Wednesday at the University of Texas.
Sontag and Laski, who defeated a Clemson squad, will join the UI team of Oliver Freelove and Cary Franklin in the main draw, which starts today in Austin.

Wisconsin scheming with option
Don Morton lost his job as football coach at Wisconsin because, in trying to copy Nebraska, his option scheme was a boring, unproductive failure.
His last home game in the 2-9 season of 1989 drew 29,776, many of whom had long since abandoned Camp Randall Stadium before Michigan State completed its 31-3 romp. It was the Badgers'' 26th loss in 30 games.

Illinois' Gavin Sontag and Jeff Laski advanced in qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday in Austin, Texas, with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) doubles victory against a Texas team.
