UI setter has hand in success

CHAMPAIGN Melissa Beitz leads the nation in assists. She may be No. 1, too, in keeping things in perspective.

Illini senior points way

Illinois senior golfer D.A. Points of Pekin carded a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday to finish in a first-place tie with Toledo's Tim Rice at the Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate in Franklin, Ind.

OSU's Wiley gains ground

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Michael Wiley came to Champaign in 1996 as a wide receiver. He left a running back.

Great for the Buckeyes. Not so good for the rest of the Big Ten.

Tate: UI's attack bodes well for future

Wonder why you haven't seen Illinois calling the wraparound draw, the halfback pass, the flanker reverse, the middle screen?

No fancy stuff here. Out of necessity, coach Ron Turner has returned to the basics. Offensively, the Illini have cut back and, in Year 2, are starting over.

Catchings on the mend

CHAMPAIGN – Theresa Grentz could be a little short-handed when Illinois women's basketball practice tips off in 10 days.

UI practice update

Look closely at the Big Ten statistics and you'll notice a mistake. Rocky Harvey's rushing numbers aren't the same as those listed by the NCAA.

Ex-Illini feeling at home

FLOSSMOOR – He's hosted MTV Jams, done a guest spot on Nickelodeon and played a basketball star on a recent episode of "Pacific Blue."

For his next TV gig, Kendall Gill ought to think about "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."

Illini basketball tickets on sale

Tickets to "Illini Madness" – the men's basketball team's first practice of the season – will go on sale Saturday to the general public.

Top team doesn't scare Illini

CHAMPAIGN – They've outscored four opponents 146-40. They've outscored Illinois 89-3 the last two seasons. They're the No. 1 team in the nation. And they're talking trash.

When the Ohio State Buckeyes visit Memorial Stadium on Saturday, they'll bring the Big Ten's top offense and defense.

Are the Illini looking forward to it? Sure.

Illinois helps shift latest poll

The Illinois volleyball team continued its climb in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 on Monday while helping rearrange the top of the poll.

The Illini (10-4) improved one spot to No. 19 in the latest poll after having moved up three places the previous week. The current ranking is the UI's highest this season.
