Who''s that Illini?

I might have started my Illini career slowly, but I had an excellent senior season, averaging 11 points and 5.7 rebounds during 32 consecutive starts. I was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection my final year under the guidance of rookie head coach Lon Kruger. I had a career-high 21 points in an upset victory at Indiana and scored 20 points in UI''s first-round NCAA victory against Southern Cal. I enjoyed my time in Champaign-Urbana so much that I decided to reside here after my playing career, and now I work for the Wright Financial Group. Today marks my 31st birthday.

New sub sandwich shop now open near Target

A new dining spot, Penn Station East Coast Subs, has opened off Champaign's North Prospect Avenue, across the road from Target.

One of more than 130 restaurant locations for the Cincinnati-based chain, the eatery features a menu of grilled East Coast-style subs, fresh-cut french fries fried in peanut oil, freshly squeezed lemonade and soft drinks, according to Garth Ries, the franchise owner.

Illinois trashes UCLA for another upset

CHAMPAIGN – The women''s college basketball landscape has been littered with upsets this season.

Throughout The Associated Press Top 25, teams have been bumped off with unusual regularity; only one top 10 team, LSU, remains unbeaten. A year ago, there were four.

Brown turning NBA heads, but he''s plenty happy on campus

CHAMPAIGN – There was no one to match his quickness, no ball handler savvy enough to keep him from ripping the rock away.

There was no challenge for Dee Brown on Sunday, his 19-point, four-assist, two-steal afternoon leading a 93-56 Illinois rout of Valparaiso in a Las Vegas Holiday Classic game at the Assembly Hall.

Courthouse tower project receives boost

URBANA – A Champaign couple is donating $400,000 toward the campaign to restore the Champaign County Courthouse clock and bell tower to its original height and look.

Jack and Marjorie Richmond of Champaign are making the donation, which was to be announced late this morning at the courthouse.

Rossow: It''s easy to motivate UI players

CHAMPAIGN – It''s a tribute to Bruce Weber''s program that it continues to act like a No. 1 team when there''s every excuse not to.

Campus is deserted, TV cameras are turned off and the current stretch of the schedule is hard on both eyes and RPIs. The coach isn''t as concerned with Longwood and Northwestern State as he is with Complacency State and Bored U.

Former Illini in the NFL

How ex-Illini players fared this week in the NFL:

Tate: Everything is perfect in Illini 10

CHAMPAIGN – How much ecstasy can one fandom absorb? How much love can they pour out?

Sunday brought the string of unchallenged Illini victories to 10, Bruce Weber''s Motion Men devouring Valparaiso 93-56 with another siege of superb passing and dead-eye shooting at the Assembly Hall.
