CLINTON – The Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition has welcomed Clinton as another area that tells remarkable stories about Abraham Lincoln.

The central Illinois town has been cited for its 10 new wayside exhibits that tell the story of the 16th president's connection to Clinton and DeWitt County.

The idea was to raise the cooking atmosphere to a temperature higher than boiling water and speed up the process of getting a meal on the table.

Today, pressure cookers are recommended for economical and/or fast cooking. They can tenderize a cheaper cut of meat or quickly cook beans.


HBO hosts Chicago preview of film on UI graduate's life

CHICAGO – The HBO Network will host tonight a Chicago preview of the new HBO film, "Temple Grandin," about the best-selling author, animal scientist and autism advocate.

The movie itself, starring Claire Danes as Grandin, a Ph.D. graduate of the University of Illinois, will debut on the network on Feb. 6.

Organizers looking for new site for rehabilitation facility

VILLA GROVE – Organizers of a proposed drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility in Villa Grove are searching for a new location after being denied approval for the facility in a residentially zoned neighborhood.

Over 50 people filled the city council chambers for a public hearing before the Planning and Zoning Committee Monday.


Indiana man dies in head-on crash

PARIS – An Indiana man was killed Monday night in a head-on collision on an icy road in Edgar County.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said John Buchanan, 19, of West Terre Haute, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash between the pickup truck in which he was a passenger and a small car that occurred on U.S. 150 just east of Paris about 5:30 p.m.


Merchants speak out against proposed bicycle lanes

URBANA – Plans to put bike lanes along Main Street in downtown Urbana are opposed by Urbana merchants.

At a meeting Tuesday at the Urbana Civic Center, several business owners said diagonal parking on Main Street is their top priority.
