Man charged with having cannabis for sale

CHAMPAIGN – A Champaign man who police said had more than an ounce of cannabis on him Friday was charged with possessing it with the intent to sell it.


Four arrested in connection with domestic battery

CHAMPAIGN – Four people were arrested in connection with a domestic battery Friday evening in Champaign where police said one woman scared off her friend's attacker by firing a gun in the air.

A Champaign police report said the incident happened about 6 p.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Hanover.


Man robbed in Urbana

URBANA – A 36-year-old Urbana man was robbed at a north Urbana motel early Friday morning.

An Urbana police report said the man was at the Hanford Inn & Suites, 2408 N. Cunningham Ave., about 6 a.m. Friday when two unidentified men demanded cash from him at gunpoint.

D.A. Points makes a push

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Jeff Overton shot a 4-under 66 on Saturday for a 3-stroke lead entering the final round of the inaugural Greenbrier Classic.

 Former Illini D.A. Points three-putted the par-5 17th for bogey, finished with a 61 and is alone in second at 15 under.

Sewer work to affect Race Street traffic

URBANA – The city of Urbana will be installing a new storm sewer on Race Street between University Avenue and the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks.

Race Street south of University Avenue to the tracks will be closed to all through traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.

Weather permitting, the work should be done by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20.

– 400 block of Ginger Bend Drive: GPS and accessories for it stolen from car Monday or Tuesday.

– 0-100 block of East Washington Street: Piece of concrete thrown through driver's window Tuesday; nothing apparently taken.


Speaker to offer tips to fundraising professionals

CHAMPAIGN – An authority on "donor-centered fund-raising" will speak to area fundraising professionals Sept. 17 in Champaign.

Penelope Burk, president of Chicago-based Cygnus Applied Research, will speak on "Fearless Fund-Raising in a Turbulent Economy" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Ave., C.
