Thursday's prep highlights: Spangler, LeRoy golfers shine
Golf
– EMILY SPANGLER of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley shot an 84 to win medalist honors at the Heart of Illinois Conference meet at Weibring Golf Club in Normal. LeRoy won the team title thanks to an 86 from MOLLY MARCUM, who finished second.
Chargers focus on prize
URBANA – Morgan Leach and Lauren Cloyd are Centennial volleyball teammates who cause double trouble for opponents.
They wreak their havoc individually, however, not as part of a double-team. Leach and Cloyd are middle hitters, and when one rotates to the front row, the other rotates out.

PAXTON – A projected $260,000 deficit budget for next fiscal year, blamed in part on an insecure revenue stream from the state, has the Ford County Board's finance committee wondering what else can be done to cutting staff.

The fun stuff is over. Mostly.
With two nonconference games left (Arkansas State at Indiana and Illinois at Fresno State), the Big Ten is 34-8. There were some good wins (Ohio State over Miami, Michigan State over Notre Dame), some close calls (Wisconsin over Arizona State, Michigan over UMass) and some bad losses (South Dakota over Minnesota, Toledo over Purdue).

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles city attorney's office says ESPN personality Jay Mariotti has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery count stemming from an August incident involving a female companion.
