Heat advisory issued for Monday and Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for central Illinois from 1 p.m. Monday to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Counties under the advisory include Champaign, Vermillion, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Moultrie, Piatt, DeWitt, Macon and McLean.

Migrant workers to get payout of $220,000 from seed company

An Indiana seed company has agreed to pay more than $200,000 to 91 migrant farm workers, including several who formerly resided in the Rantoul area.


Sales tax money to school districts

The school districts in Champaign County receive a portion of the school facilities sales tax revenue according to their enrollment. In addition to the 14 school districts within the county, nine more have a portion of land and a handful of students in Champaign County.


Districts using nearly $21 million from county sales tax

Since January 2010, when you buy a pair of pants or a refrigerator, put gas in your car or eat out at a restaurant in Champaign County, you've paid 1 percent more in sales tax.

That school facilities sales tax has generated almost $20.78 million for school districts to use to build new buildings, update the ones they've got or pay off building bond debt.
