Plans outlined for high-voltage line

CHAMPAIGN — Ameren Transmission has outlined several potential route corridors it may use for a high-voltage transmission line connecting its Sidney and Rising substations.

All the potential corridors run west from Sidney to points along or west of Interstate 57, then north to the Rising substation northwest of Champaign.


Champaign council-salary task force seeks more information

CHAMPAIGN — A task force tapped to make a recommendation on what the city's elected officials should be paid will meet at least two more times before sending a formal recommendation to the city council.

Two plead guilty in ID theft scam

URBANA — Two of four people charged in an identity theft scam involving Busey Bank customers last year have pleaded guilty.

Assistant State's Attorney Joel Fletcher said one of the pair, a former Busey Bank teller, has agreed to testify against two others involved.

URBANA — An Urbana teen already charged with a June residential burglary has also been charged with a home invasion and armed robbery that occurred last fall.


Homeless man faces cocaine charge

URBANA — A homeless man who allegedly had cocaine packaged for sale on him Friday is due back in Champaign County Circuit Court in September.

University of Illinois police arrested Anthony Caston, 29, who last lived in Urbana, about 9:20 p.m. Friday, UI Sgt. Tom Geis said.


Sheriff's investigators say 2 teens spray-painted vehicles

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign County sheriff's investigators have identified two Champaign teens they believe to be responsible for more than a dozen vehicle vandalisms that occurred in southwest Champaign in late July.


Woman injured in van rollover on I-57

RANTOUL — A Carbondale woman was injured Tuesday morning after she fell asleep at the wheel of her van, causing it to roll over several times on Interstate 57.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said the accident happened on I-57 northbound near Rantoul at 10:24 a.m.
