Oakwood School District may sell Batestown land

FITHIAN – The Oakwood School District is looking into whether it can sell a small portion of a land parcel it owns next to the old Diamond School in Batestown.

Superintendent Keven Forney said the district owns a 4.5 acre parcel next to the old school. The district leases the land to Danville Township for a baseball park, Forney said.

The township currently has a 10-year lease, but Forney said someone approached him about buying a small piece of the property that doesn't interfere with the baseball park.

Forney said he is investigating the inquiry. He said he plans to speak with the township about whether the sale would interfere with the park and then will learn about selling the land properly as a public offering.
