DECATUR – Emmy Award-winning actress Jean Smart and her husband, actor Richard Gilliland, will star in A.R. Gurney's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play "Love Letters" the evening of June 7 at the historic Lincoln Square Theatre in Decatur.
The play, the grand finale performance during the Shadows of Lincoln Festival, will be directed by Ted Weiant.
Smart, who has appeared in "Samantha Who?," "24," "Frasier," "Designing Women" and "I Heart Huckabees," and Gilliland ("The Unit," "24," "Joan of Arcadia") met 20 years ago on the set of the television sitcom, "Designing Women." The couple will celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary on the stage of the Lincoln Theatre.
Weiant created the internationally acclaimed Los Angeles production of "Love Letters" starring more than 250 celebrity actors, including Mel Gibson, Sissy Spacek, Carol Burnett, Charlton Heston, Gena Rowlands and Ben Gazarra. He then repeated his success by directing several national and regional tours across the country.
"Love Letters" traces the relationship of a man and a woman through their written correspondence, which spans a friendship formed in childhood through the struggles of adulthood.
Regular tickets for the performance are $35, $50 and $75. A VIP ticket for $200 includes premier seating and a private champagne reception with the stars following the performance.
To order tickets, call the Lincoln Theatre Box Office at 422-1711. For more information on the Shadows of Lincoln Festival, go to www.decatur magazine.com.
