CHAMPAIGN – The Parkland College Digital Media Student Juried Exhibition will open Monday, and the reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Parkland Art Gallery lounge with music by DJ Lincoln Jones and an award ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday.
A Gallery Talk by John Havlik, a graphic design instructor at Parkland and a former graphic designer at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, will take place at 2 p.m. June 18. The exhibition will remain on display through June 21.
The Parkland College Digital Media Student Juried Exhibition showcases the best work of students in Parkland's graphic design, Web design and 3-D animation programs.
Besides giving students a chance to present their best work to the community and to industry professionals in marketing communication, advertising and design, the exhibit also highlights service learning, an important component of Parkland's curriculum. As the students successfully solve visual communication problems for local clients, the clients often donate money for awards.
The gallery summer hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The gallery will be closed May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.
To find the gallery when classes are in session, use the M parking lots, enter through any door and follow the ramps uphill to the highest point, where the gallery is located.
All events are free and open to the public in the handicapped-accessible gallery. For information, call Parkland Art Gallery at 351-2485 or visit www.parkland.edu/gallery.
