Mark James, an alumnus of Mahomet-Seymour High School and the University of Illinois, directed a commercial that is one of five semifinalists in the Jim Beam "The Remake" Video Contest.

James' "The Eco-Tragedy" is vying for a $25,000 prize and a featured place on Jim Beam's site. James wrote, directed and supervised the edit of "The Eco-Tragedy" with help from professional actors and friends. It was shot on Chicago's North Side.
A freelance director of photography and 2004 Illinois graduate, James has shot for several TV shows and networks, among them Discovery, HGTV and Harpo. He credits his start in the industry to WILL-TV in Urbana and Dreamscape Cinema in Champaign.
