Tried and True: Jeannetta Vogelzang's No-bake cookies

Jeannetta Vogelzang of Monticello makes these cookies frequently for her family.

"They are yummy even when she considers them 'a flop,'" daughter-in-law LeAndra says.

No-Bake Cookies

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup milk

3 cups oatmeal

1 cup coconut

6 tablespoons cocoa (for more moist cookies, use 2 melted 1-ounce chocolate baking bars)

1 teaspoon vanilla

Melt butter in a medium saucepan; blend in sugar. Stir in milk. Bring to boil; continue for 3 minutes or to 234 degrees (soft boil) on candy thermometer.

Remove from heat. Add oatmeal, coconut, chocolate and vanilla.

Drop on waxed paper and let cool.
