Auditions to be held for Starstruck Theatre's 'Shrew' production
CHAMPAIGN – Starstruck Theatre Company, a new theater group founded by two home-schooled teenagers, will have additional auditions on Friday for its first production, "The Taming of the Shrew."
The auditions will be from 3 to 8:45 p.m. in Room 222 of the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St., C. Actors and musicians ages 14-25 and of all levels of experience are welcome to audition.
No preparation for actors is necessary; readings will be from the script. Musicians should prepare a short musical piece to play.
Rehearsals are set to begin the third week in April. The play will be presented at 7 p.m. June 25 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 26 at the Independent Media Center in Urbana.
The theater group founders, Jessica Adrian, 16, of Philo and Emma Rannebarger, 16, of Champaign, had wanted to start a theater group for two years; they have extensive experience at the Creative Dramatics Workshop, Rantoul Theatre Group and the World Stage Theatre Company, a group for home-schooled youngsters that performs Shakespeare and other classics.
Emma and Jessica have modified "The Taming of the Shrew" script, by William Shakespeare. They need at least 20 people to put on the play. The proceeds will go to two local non-profit groups: Salt and Light, and the Independent Medical Center.
