CHAMPAIGN — The kick-off event for this year's American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Champaign County will be held tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 31), and anyone interested in participating or helping is encouraged to attend.
It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Champaign County Extension Office, 801 N. Country Fair Drive, C, and include information about the relay and cancer society mission, a mini-relay, story-teller Camille Born, refreshments and opportunities to win prizes.
The cancer society is encouraging people attending to come dressed as their favorite superheroes.
Relay for Life is an overnight event and fund-raiser for the cancer society.
This year's event in Champaign County will be held starting at 6 p.m. June 9 at Centennial High School in Champaign.
Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of jobs, including organizing and recruiting teams, securing community support, helping with publicity and logistics and planning entertainment, according to the cancer society.
