Holiday performances this week feature one-act plays

DANVILLE — The Red Mask Christmas production featuring one-act plays will be presented from Thursday through Saturday at the Kathryn Randolph Theater, 601 N. Vermilion St.

Linda Bolton will direct three one-act plays. The first two are short and from different spectrums of the Christmas universe.

The first, "Santa's Clara," is a play about redemption and stars Gail Garner and Alicia Pettigrew.

The second, "Balls," takes a new look at the fragility of life from the perspective of Christmas ornaments in crisis. It stars Bob Scott, Sue Daugherty, Julia Megan Sullivan, Donna Sant and Barb Garner. Both plays are written by George Cameron Grant.

After intermission, the third play will give the audience a new look at old lines as a cast takes to the stage in "A Seussified Christmas Carol" by Peter Bloedel. The actors will rhyme during this farcical view of Charles Dickens through the eyes (and mouth) of Dr. Seuss. The narrators for the show will be Wilbur Bolton and Robert Hous.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday.

"By moving to Thursday through Saturday, we can avoid conflicting with the symphony on Sunday, and these plays are short enough that people can come enjoy them but still get home early," Linda Bolton said in a news release.

There are no reserved seats. The box office opens 30 minutes before the shows. Admission is $10 per person. This is a fundraiser and is not included in the Red Mask Players' regular season membership.
