Carolers will visit area retirement homes this week

CHAMPAIGN — Musician Jimmy Bean of Champaign is organizing a Christmas Carolers Choir to perform this week at retirement homes and other places.

"You don't have to be able to sing — just be enthusiastic and perhaps pass out candy canes or assist the residents with finding the lyrics," Bean said in a news release. "I provide the lyric sheets for about a dozen or so holiday standards."

People who participate do not have to attend every performance. Male vocalists are needed. The itinerary:

— Monday, Inman Place, 17 E. University Ave., C.

— Tuesday, Clark-Lindsey Village, 101 W. Windsor Road, U.

— Wednesday, Bentley's in connection with Jammin' Jimmy Bean and Tommy Grassman's Christmas Jam.

— Thursday, Prairie Village, 200 W. International (on the former Chanute Air Force Base), Rantoul.

— Friday, Helia Health Care. 1915 S. Mattis Ave., C.

Each performance is from 7 to 8 p.m. Bean asks the carolers to arrive 15 minutes early to find the rest of the group and to run through quick vocal warm-ups. The session at Bentley's is an adults-only group party from 8 to 11 p.m. The carolers will probably sing between 9 and 10 that evening.
