'Edwin Drood' auditions set for upcoming weekend

CHAMPAIGN — The Parkland College Theatre will have open auditions for Rupert Holmes' musical comedy "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and next Sunday at the theater. Callbacks will be at 7 p.m. that Sunday.

Director Dallas Street and musical director Aaron Kaplan will cast energetic singers/actors/dancers ages 18 and older for the audience-interactive "show within a show" set in an English music hall. Character descriptions may be found at http://www.parkland.edu/theatre.

Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a musical theater song, one minute or less, that best displays their vocal ability. An accompanist will be provided. The initial audition will consist of telling a joke (30 seconds to one minute) or funny short story in an English dialect; dance and cold scene readings will take place at callbacks.

The performances will take place April 24-May 5. All members of the community as well as Parkland and University of Illinois students are invited to audition; Parkland Theatre encourages diversity. For information, email theatre@parkland.edu.
