Exhibit opening, performance Friday

CHAMPAIGN — "Fleeting," a group exhibition on the theme of impermanence, will open Friday, with an artists' reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Indi Go Artist Co-op, 9 E. University Ave.

There also will be a performance piece, "Trim," by Sarah Beth Woods at 7:45 p.m. Friday.

"Fleeting" will be on display through Feb. 11 by appointment or during Indi Go's open hours. Christina McClelland, public arts coordinator for the city of Urbana, curated the exhibition, which features work by 14 U.S. and international artists.

In "Fleeting," the artists explore the idea of impermanence through a diverse array of media, artistic practices and methods of working. The works take the form of site-specific installation, performance, painting, photography, video, sculpture and participatory work.

Particularly through examining impermanence in the context of nature and biological phenomena, as well as through nontraditional and nonarchival materials, "Fleeting" addresses the temporary and ephemeral nature of art and its subjects.

An interdisciplinary artist, McClelland has had her work exhibited nationally and internationally, most notably at the Gene Siskel Film Center and the Sullivan Galleries, both in Chicago; the Des Moines Art Center; and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Neb.

On Feb. 10, her two-person exhibition with Tom Costa, "After the After Party," will open at Roxaboxen Exhibitions in Chicago. She received a master of fine arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Iowa.
