Families invited to attend Rock Jam

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign School of Music will host a Family Rock Jam on Friday evening for any families who want to participate.

The event from 7 to 9 p.m. at the school, 1712 S. Duncan Road, will feature an interactive rock workshop featuring the Big Red Skillet band, followed by a jam with the pros for families with children and adults of all ages. No music experience is necessary; those with musical instruments are invited to bring them.

To reserve tickets, call 359-0541 or visit http://www.champaignschoolofmusic.org and select Family Rock Jam. Tickets for Champaign School of Music families are free if reserved ahead of time. For all others, tickets are $5 for families who make reservations ahead of time or $8 per family at the door. There are limited spots.

Director Holly Kennedy said the school's Music Together program for infants and kids up to 5 provides positive, engaging musical learning activities for kids and their parents. The Family Rock Jam will extend a similar opportunity to kids of all ages as well as their parents or grandparents.

Kennedy founded the school in 2003 to encourage students to discover, develop and enjoy their unique musical abilities. It offers group classes for babies through adults and private lessons on most instruments.
