Opera group raising funds for festival

WATSEKA — The board of directors and the Opera Guild of Sugar Creek Symphony & Song will have a Cash Bash fundraising event March 9 to raise money for the 11th annual Sugar Creek Opera Festival in August.

The Cash Bash will begin at 6 p.m. at "Celebrations" in Watseka and will end at 10 p.m. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a steak dinner will be served; an open bar will be available from 6 to 10. Tickets are $100 per couple.

Only 200 tickets will be sold; cash prizes will be given away throughout the evening. In addition, other games will be played. For more information, contact Paul Wilson at 815-473-4213.

The Sugar Creek Opera Festival will be Aug. 4-6. The main-stage production will be "Cold Sassy Tree," an American opera composed by Carlisle Floyd that debuted in 2000 at the Houston Opera. Performed in English, "Cold Sassy Tree" is a comedy full of laughter, romance, scandal and beautiful music, according to a Sugar Creek news release.
