Tolono approves permit for beer tent, bands for Fun Day

TOLONO — A downtown bar will again host a beer tent during this year's Tolono Fun Day festival.

The village board has unanimously approved a special-event permit and liquor license that will allow the Dead Horse Lounge to have a beer tent and live bands on June 28 and 29 in the former Maggio's IGA parking lot on Main Street. The bar took over the downtown beer tent associated with Tolono Fun Day when the festival committee stopped running it in 2011.

Hours will be from 6 p.m. to midnight June 28 and from noon to midnight June 29. Bands will start playing at 8 or 9 p.m. and stop by midnight, Dead Horse owner Steve Hillard said.

Hillard said he's also been contacted by a car club that is interested in having a car show downtown.

"Friday night I'd like to close the street for public safety," Hillard said.

The board also approved a special-event permit and liquor license that would allow the bar to host a similar event from 6 p.m. to midnight on May 31 as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
