Fire, police chiefs to be grand marshals on July 4

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign County fire and police chiefs have been named the grand marshals of the 64th annual Freedom Celebration to be held on July Fourth, and they will lead the ceremonies under the theme "United We Stand, Proudly We Serve," organizers announced this week.

The theme will accompany some changes to this year's schedule and location. The 5K run/walk and the parade have both been pushed up two hours. The race will start just after 9 a.m. and the parade just after 11 a.m.

The evening entertainment will begin at 7 p.m., as in the past, but it will be moved to University of Illinois parking lot E-14, which is just west of Assembly Hall. The fireworks will begin there at 9:15 p.m.

Further details about the July Fourth event will be released as the holiday nears.
