URBANA — The newly formed Illini Student Musicals group will present "Little Shop of Horrors" on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the newly renovated Lincoln Hall Theater on the University of Illinois campus.
Seth Valentine directs the production. Choreography is by Lauren Welton, and music directors are Aaron Kaplan and Stephen Boyer.
Playing Audrey will be Allison Morse; Seymour, Nick Shine; Audrey II, Christopher Cayari; Orin the Dentist, David Naber; and Mushnik, Michael Pirovano.
The curtain time is 7:30 p.m. for all three performances. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults. To buy tickets online, go to http://illinistudentmusicals.wordpress.com/tickets/.
Illini Student Musicals plans the musical comedy as its first offering in an annual spring production, following its inaugural production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" in November, also at Lincoln Hall.
The plot of "Little Shop": A down-and-out Skid Row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation after he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore that offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination.
