URBANA — The University of Illinois Black Chorus will present its annual Mom's Day Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Foellinger Great Hall in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
A campus institution since 1968, the group celebrates the sounds of African-Americans in spirituals, gospel anthems, jazz works and R&B songs. Conductor Ollie Watts-Davis, a UI professor of voice, leads the group.
"We have enjoyed a tremendous year with performances for the (UI's celebration of) the sesquicentennial of the Emancipation Proclamation, the re-dedication of historic Lincoln Hall, the 11th biennial Black Sacred Music Symposium, a freedom tour to Birmingham, Ala., etc.," Davis said via email. "In short, we've had a very interesting year!"
Tickets are $11 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $8, students. Call 333-6280 for information.
