Auditions next month for CUTC's 'Les Miserables'

URBANA — The Champaign Urbana Theater Company will have auditions in early June for an adult production of "Les Miserables," to be directed by retired Millikin University arts dean and administrator Stephen Fiol.

The show will be presented Aug. 1-11 at the Parkland College Theatre and will be the first community theater production in the Champaign-Urbana area of the adult version of "Les Mis." CUTC has presented the youth version twice.

The musical direction is by is Aaron Kaplan with choreography by Whitney Havice.

CUTC will have separate auditions for potential adult cast members and youth cast members. The auditions will be June 6-9 at the Champaign Urbana Theater Company offices, 608 N. Cunningham Ave., U, adjacent to Country Companies Insurance.

Auditions for adults, age 14 and above, will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. June 6-7, and 2 to 5 p.m. June 8. Adults should prepare three pieces; a one -minute monologue, one ballad and one up-tempo Broadway selection of one minute each. The selections should not be from "Les Miserables."

Participants will need to bring their own sheet music and, while an accompanist will be present, singers may choose to bring their own.

The audition time for actors age 13 and younger is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 8. Youth participants should prepare a one-minute song of their choice, not from "Les Mis," and bring their own sheet music. An accompanist will be present although participants may choose to bring their own.
