'Little Mermaid Jr.' to play at Virginia

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Park District's Youth Theatre program will present the stage musical "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr." from Thursday through Saturday at the newly renovated Virginia Theatre.

This will be the Virginia's first live theatrical production after the $5.5 million renovation of the auditorium.

Show times are 7 p.m. each day with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday. The doors will open 30 minutes before show time. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for children 12 and younger and available at the Virginia, 203 W. Park Ave., C, or at http://www.thevirginia.org/shows/theatre/9-mermaid.

Patty Dudley directs, and assistant director for music is Michael Greenstone. Assistant director for choreography is Darcy Allen.

Adapted from Disney's 2008 Broadway production, "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr." features the hit songs "Part of Your World," "She's in Love" and the Oscar-winning "Under the Sea."

Taking place in a magical kingdom fathoms below, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton; make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula; and convince Prince Eric that she's the girl with the enchanting voice.

The cast includes Georgia Atkinson, Saskia Bakker, Naomi Baright, Lena Beuoy, Camille Breen, Grace Brown, Gilly Burch, Ella Burrus, Santi Calle, Jane Camarca, Madelyn Childress, Samantha Crawford, Ritu Dave, Haley Elam, Parker Evans, Alaea Francis, Ilana Gertsen, Ryan Gossett, Kenichia Gray, Maddy Henson, Rachel Hurt, Bethy Kaiser, Gwen Kaiser, Ava Krantz, Maya Lagerstam, Ellen Loucks, Emi Loucks, Melissa Luttrell, Ally Miller, Kristiana Mininger, Olivia Nelshoppen, Isabel Scott, Lorena Thompson, Holden Thornhill, Samantha Thornhill, Lexi Wheeler, Kate Williams, Cari Wright and Ruth Zielke.
