Friday Night Live starts this weekend in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — The Friday Night LIVE Street-Side Performance Series in downtown Champaign will kick off Friday and continue through Aug. 16.

The series, which began last summer, features live street-side performances of all kinds of music, dance and magic, as well as activities for children.

Friday Night LIVE will happen from 6 to 8 p.m. each Friday, with performances at the intersections of Neil and Church, Neil and Park, and Walnut and Chester.

This week's schedule:

Neil and Church (One Main Plaza): 6 p.m., Gypsy Hips belly dance troupe; 7 p.m., Desafinado, Brazilian jazz.

Neil and Park: 6 p.m., David Howie and Lou DiBello, the Live Jukebox Duo Show; 7 p.m., John Dahlstedt and Nathaniel Ruiz, Clarinet Jazz Revival.

Walnut and Chester: 6 p.m., Kate Fritz with Tom Turino, old-time Scottish and Appalachian guitar and fiddle; 7 p.m., Briggs-Houchin Duo, jazz.
