CHAMPAIGN — Tickets go on sale Friday for blues-guitar legend Robert Cray at the historic Virginia Theatre.
The five-time Grammy Award-winning guitarist and singer will perform Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available at thevirginia.org, at the Virginia Theatre Box Office, or by phone at 356-9063.
Tickets range between $21 and $50, the top price for reserved seating.
Opening for the Robert Cray Band will be hometown heroes Cody & the Gateway Drugs, featuring Rowdy Norton on upright bass; Katie Flynn, vocals/percussion; Cody Sokolski, vocals, guitars, songs; and Jeff "El Jefe" Carpenter on percussion.
Cray is considered one of the greatest guitarists of his generation. Rolling Stone Magazine credits Cray with reinventing the blues with his "distinct razor sharp guitar playing."
Cray has gone on to record 15 Billboard charting studio albums and has written or performed with everyone from Eric Clapton to Stevie Ray Vaughan, from Bonnie Raitt to John Lee Hooker.
Recently inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame at the age of 57, he is one of the youngest living legends to receive the honor.
