Art closing set at Common Ground

URBANA — The Common Ground Food Co-op in Urbana will have its first art exhibition closing night from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The exhibition in the store's Flatlander Classroom is of the late Stephanie Ognar's "Graphic Tees" series. It has been there since late May. The closing reception will feature refreshments.

Maya Bauer, who coordinates the gallery, said local artists were chosen to show their work in the Flatlander Classroom through 2014. The application process closed in April.

The co-op earlier this year received a $5,000 grant from the city and the Urbana Business Association to start the gallery. That was the largest amount given to any recipient of the city's public arts grants.

"The co-op seeks to make a vibrant and inclusive community, and this goal includes the arts," Bauer said in a release.
