PAXTON — The Tri-County Players will present, for two weekends, "Sympathy Jones, The New Secret Agent Musical," starring local students.
The musical, a spoof of the 1960s spy world, has music and lyrics by Masi Asare and book by Brooke Pierce. Tri-County will stage it at the Paxton Market Street Theatre.
The theater company provided this synopsis:
"This is the story of a young woman who dreams of being a star ... a star spy, that is. Sympathy Jones is a spunky receptionist at a New York City intelligence agency who studies Indonesian martial arts in her spare time and is constantly angling for a promotion, to the amusement of the manly spies who inhabit her 1960s world.
"When a top-secret file is accidentally left on her desk she seizes the opportunity to embark on an adventure of her own, and in the process discovers that daring to save the world against impossible odds is not nearly as glamorous as she thought it would be. Even the best spies need some help from their friends along the way."
Tammy Belanger directs, with musical direction from Chuck Belanger. Cast members include Nora Snyder, Shay Davis, Evan Seggebruch, Austin McNealy, Zach Mason, Drew Corbin, Cora Geiken, Tyler Arends, Markus Janowski, Melissa Goldman and Jessica DeBella.
The show dates are Friday, Saturday and next Sunday and Aug. 2-4, with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2.
Tickets are $12. For reservations, call 379-7028.
