Blue Man Group starts series at State Farm Center

CHAMPAIGN — The University of Illinois State Farm Center has announced the 2013-2014 WCIA 3 Broadway Series, with three touring productions coming to Champaign.

The first show in the series is the Blue Man Group, which performs at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19. The group is known for theatrical shows and concerts that combine comedy, music and technology to produce a unique form of entertainment.

"Memphis," which opens at 7 p.m. Oct. 30, is a Tony award-winning musical about the underground dance clubs of the 1950s.

The ABBA-inspired "Mamma Mia!" will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 8. Writer Catherine Johnson's tale uses songs from the 1970s pop group as a daughter, on the eve of her wedding, tries to discover the identity of her father.

The cost for a series subscription ranges from $126 to $190. Orders are also subject to additional ticket fees. University of Illinois students will receive a $24 discount on the series ($8 per show).

Tickets can be ordered by calling the State Farm Center ticket office at 866-ILLINI-1 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, or by going online at http://www.uofiassemblyhall.com.
