Celebrated We Banjo 3 band to perform on Tuesday

URBANA — The We Banjo 3 band will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, 202 S. Broadway Ave., U.

The band actually has four members — Enda and Fergal Scahill and Martin and David Howley. They are among the most celebrated and distinguished young musicians in Ireland today.

They play a mix of old-time music, bluegrass and traditional Irish music on banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and percussion, and sing as well.

Martin Howley holds seven All-Ireland titles, Enda Schahill has four, while Fergal Scahill and David Howley hold All Ireland titles on banjo, fiddle, bodhran and guitar. Martin was the first Irish banjo player to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

The concert is part of Dean Karres's Piper's Hut Concert Series, which focuses on traditional Irish music, with some Scottish and a few other things dropped in from time to time.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. For ticket information visit www.pipers-hut.com/concerts/‎.
