Festival with emphasis on Dylan set for weekend

URBANA — The first Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective Festival will take place this coming weekend, with a centerpiece being a reprise on Saturday night of DYLAN Redux.

The events will take place at the Urbana Landmark Hotel on the west side of Lincoln Square Village.

On May 25, the Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective presented the Bob Dylan Birthday Bash at Mike 'N' Molly's in Champaign. It was to have taken place in the beer garden.

"Unfortunately, it rained, which meant the show had to be moved into the much smaller indoors, and many people did not get to see the show as expected," show promoter Todd Durnil said on Facebook.

"The show was, without a doubt, the absolute greatest show I have ever produced — all of the fantastic talent brought it big time!"

So Durnil, of Nightjar Productions, decided to produce the show again, this time inside the newly renovated hotel. The show will be recorded by Urbana Public TV for broadcast — "if we can figure out the copyright limitations of the music," Durnil said.

DYLAN Redux will feature several new songs and performers from the one in May, and Big Bluestem, the house band for the evening, will play a medley of Dylan songs as DYLAN Redux starts at 6 p.m. The concert finalewill include most of the musicians performing Dylan songs.

The Singer-Songwriter Festival will feature not just DYLAN Redux but also multiple showcases of local musicians playing original music on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon in the hotel's Grand Hall and Library Lounge.

The cover charge at the door for the Dylan show or the Sunday showcases will be $10 each; a wristband may be purchased for $15 on Friday night for the entire weekend.

Entrance for just Friday night is free.

The Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective, Nightjar Productions and the CU Folk & Roots Festival are presenting the festival.
