New window murals going up this week

URBANA — Chip McNeill, head of the jazz studies program at the University of Illinois, will be seeing himself often in downtown Urbana.

Artist Chris Evans' portrait of the jazz musician is one of the images chosen for the city and Urbana Business Association's next "Murals on Glass" program. McNeill's portrait will go up on the south parking deck tower.

Other images selected:

— "Let's Ride" by Molly Poganski, which will be on the windows of the Urbana Business Association, 111 W. Main St.

— "Summer" by Jill Miller and "Fall Elegy VI" by Rosalind Faiman Weinberg will go on the south windows of the Urbana Civic Center, 108 E. Water St.

The new murals are expected to be installed early this week. "Abe in the Grass" by Larry Steinbauer will remain on the northeast parking deck tower on Main Street and Broadway Avenue.

Supported by the City of Urbana Public Arts Commission and the Urbana Business Association, "Murals on Glass" provides opportunities for local artists to show their work while beautifying the city streetscape. More information can be found at http://www.urbanaillinois.us/muralsonglass.
