Haiku study group / starts in Champaign-Urbana / you can take part too

CHAMPAIGN — Lee Gurga, editor of the C-U Haiku feature in Sunday's News-Gazette, is starting a haiku study group that will meet Sunday afternoons.

The first meeting is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 in the second-floor Foundation Room 222 at the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St.

The idea for the meetings — which are free and open to anyone interested in haiku — is to study, write, and critique each other's poems.

At the first meeting, Gurga will make an introductory presentation on writing haiku and share several resources with those attending. Possible agendas for future meetings will also be discussed.

Haiku written by those attending can be critiqued if the attendee is interested.
