Songwriters group celebrates Johnny Cash

URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective on Friday evening will celebrate the life and music of Johnny Cash at the Rose Bowl Tavern, 106 N. Race St.

The show, starting at 8 p.m., marks the 10th anniversary of the death of the legendary "Man in Black." Cash died Sept. 12, 2003.

Featured performers who will cover Cash songs will include Brett Conlin, who co-organized the event; Jeff Arrigo, co-founder of the collective; John Coppess; Margaret O'Brien; Justin Tanaka; John McMahon; Nancy Livingston; Mayhew the Traitor; Hi-Ho Buffalo; Garret Gengler; Morgan Orion; Ashley Riley; Kevin Elliott; Steve Meadows; and Cliff & Kristy Stoker.

The show will be the first of two Cash celebrations that weekend; the second show, featuring another batch of performers from throughout central Illinois, will take place Saturday evening at the Firehouse Pizza & Pub in Normal.

Admission to the Urbana show is $10 for general public and $7 for students.
