Opening show of 'Romeo and Juliet' set for Friday

RANTOUL — The Rantoul Theatre Group will present William Shakespeare's story of star-crossed lovers, "Romeo and Juliet," with the opening show Friday evening.

Director Larry Smith and assistant director Jennifer Rhoads are working with cast members from Rantoul, Gifford, Ludlow, Danville, Champaign and Urbana.

Starring as Romeo is Nathan Hutton. Juliet is played by Aleah D. Combs. Andy Decker plays Friar Laurence, and Mary Rose Cottingham is the nurse.

Members of the House of Capulet include Diane M. Johnson, Jennifer S. Lee, Cody Powers, Jaupone Noraseng, Jacob Rhoads, Hannah Combs and Allison Kelley. Members of the House of Montague include Catherine Scudder, Mark Jewell, Calvin Bosler, Sam Collins, Cali Storm and Hannah Rhoads.

Lynn Podoll plays Prince Escalus.

The show is suitable for family members and has no objectionable language or themes. The play will be presented this and next Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Grissom Hall Theatre, 914 Arends Blvd., on the former Chanute Air Force Base. The Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinees at 2.
