Strings players can practice at Urbana Pops event

URBANA — Area high school strings players who plan to audition for the Illinois Music Educators Association All-District Orchestra are invited to a free practice session hosted by the Urbana Pops Orchestra from noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Urbana Middle School, 1201 S. Vine St.

"This practice session is a great way for strings students to work on the music for this year's ILMEA audition and have more fun doing it than just practicing at home on their own," Urbana Pops Orchestra board president Debra Levey Larson said.

The practice session will include strings sectionals with Urbana Pops musicians, followed by an all-strings session with Richard R. Rossi, director of orchestral and choral activities at Eastern Illinois University.

There, he directs the Eastern Symphony Orchestra, the Eastern Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the Concert Choir and the Oratorio Society. He teaches both graduate and advanced undergraduate conducting and organ.

Admission to the Urbana Pops practice session is free, but advance online registration is requested at http://www.urbanapops.org or by calling 979-1910.
