Illinois bands corner Oct. 10, 2013

The University of Illinois bands are a beloved institution in Champaign-Urbana. Here is what they are doing this weekend:

Thursday

7:30 p.m.: Hindsley Symphonic Band and University Concert Band (conducted by visiting assistant director of bands J. Ashley Jarrell and graduate associate conductors Brad Wallace and Brian Coffill) playing pieces by a wide range of composers including John Philip Sousa, George Gates, John Williams, Roy Harris and Andrew Boysen Jr., Foellinger Great Hall, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (tickets $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4 for students)

Saturday

8 a.m.-9:45 p.m.: Illini Marching Band Championships, in which 50 Illinois bands play — and the Marching Illini perform at 2:18 and 9:18 p.m., Memorial Stadium (all-day general admission tickets, available at booths along Kirby Avenue, $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, free for children 5 and younger).
