Parkland concert features three musical groups

CHAMPAIGN — Three Parkland College music groups will present at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Parkland Theatre a concert of choral and instrumental classics.

The "Music on the Autumn Winds" concert will feature the Parkland Chamber Singers, Parkland Chorus, and Parkland Wind Ensemble. The concert is free and open to the public.

Introducing its new conductor, Miranda M. Rowland, the Parkland Chamber Singers will present selections including "Libera Me" from Gabriel Faur's Requiem; "Festival Sanctus" by John Leavitt; and Charles Albert Tindley's "The Storm is Passing Over," arranged by Barbara W. Baker. Sunny Choo is the accompanist.

The Parkland Chorus, directed by Barbara Zachow with Choo as accompanist, will perform several selections from "I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes to the Hills" by Adolphus Hailstork as well as "Hand In Hand" by Rollo Dilworth.

The Parkland Wind Ensemble selections will include "Exultate" by Samuel R. Hazo; "Persuasion" by Sammy Nestico; and "Goddess of Fire" by Steven Reineke, among others. Verlin Richardson conducts the wind ensemble.
