Contemporary music concert set at Parkland planetarium

CHAMPAIGN — A contemporary music concert titled "In the Dome" will take place at 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland Collage.

Tickets are $5 per person at the door.

The event features the music of Suono Mobile USA, a think tank dedicated to curating programs of contemporary music on a high conceptual level, and presenting those programs in and beyond the concert hall.

Suono Mobile co-founders are composer Philipp Blume and saxophonist Nathan Mandel. The concert features Mandel performing several works from his repertoire; a new work by Blume for tenor saxophone; five-channel sound; and imagery from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory.

Audio specialist Frank Horger and planetarium Director David Leake will contribute their expertise to the program.
