Auction to raise funds for festival
WATSEKA — Sugar Creek Symphony & Song will have a live auction Saturday to raise money for the festival that takes place each summer.
The fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. at Miss Carol's, 1140 E. Walnut St., Watseka. Tickets are $15 per person and $25 per couple and may be purchased by calling 815-432-3830 or in person from any of the following Opera Guild members: Mary Boudreau, Sandra Boyer, Mary Decker, Ella Haberkorn, Tira Howaniec, Dora Kwak, Anne Leinen, Cheryl McClullough, Joelle Nelson, Viola E. Noll-Paro, Carolyn Schmidt, Joanne Sherry, Lorraine Smith, Gayle Weber, Judy Weidert and Paul Wilson.
Rollie Rosenboom will serve as auctioneer. If you are unable to attend, you may bid during the event by calling 815-471-6612.
The items up for bid include:
— A wine tasting for six with hors d'oeuvres, hosted by Decker.
— A Mexican fiesta dinner for six by Chef Manny, hosted by Bob and Joanne Sherry.
— A bunco party for 12, hosted by Lorraine Smith in February or March 2014.
— A barbecue for six, hosted by Richard and Susie Boomgarden.
— A taste of the "Heartland" gourmet dinner for six with wine pairings by Inside Out.
— A Greek-inspired gourmet dinner prepared by Heartland Spa's "Chef Tasos" in the buyer's home.
— A light Sport Trike Plane ride donated by Curt Shoaf.
— A garden party for 12 featuring summer or fall seasonal fresh foods, along with wine and beer. Hosted by Ray and Anne Leinen.
— Dinner for eight prepared by George Cuonzo and Sara Dannehl Henry. Hosted by Caire Lane.
— A round of golf for four at the Kankakee Country Club.
— Main Street Gifts: A holiday set with a dish, a bowl and a serving piece with a spreader.
— From Studio 120, a hand-stitched scarf in velvet with beads, designed by Deborah of Beadazzle; and a piece of beach glass jewelry hand crafted by Kathy Blunk.
— From Covered in Paint Art Studio and Gallery, multiple gift containers filled with original work by local artists.
— A gift certificate to Heaven's Creations in Gilman.
— From The Gathering, a pound of homemade fudge every month for one year.
Founded in 2002 by opera singer and former Watseka resident Helen Todd along with John Whitman, the annual Sugar Creek Opera Festival just completed its 11th season.
