Volunteers needed to decorate for Parade of Lights

CHAMPAIGN — Volunteers are needed Nov. 11 to decorate downtown and midtown Champaign for the 13th annual Parade of Lights.

The Champaign Center Partnership will bring the event Nov. 30.

At 10 a.m. Nov. 11, volunteers will meet at 34 Main St. to help wrap light poles in garland, ribbon and lights. Lunch will be provided.

The Nov. 30 event features floats, marching bands and Santa Claus himself, and concludes with a tree lighting ceremony at One Main Plaza.

You can design a float for your business or organization, or gather a group to walk, dance or sing your way through the parade route.

All parade entries must have lights on them. Float entries will be judged and the winner will take home $500 worth of local radio advertising. A parade entry form and route map is at champaigncenter.com. The event also need volunteers on Nov. 30 to help with pre-parade entertainment, float check-in, traffic control, hot chocolate monitors and more.

To volunteer for either of these dates, contact Executive Director Erin Lippitz at 352-2400 or erin@champaigncenter.com.
