Artists invited to submit work for display on buses

CHAMPAIGN — 40 North 88 West, the Champaign County Arts Council, invites Champaign County artists to submit work to be considered for "MTD ART," a 40 North program in collaboration with the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District and Dixon Graphics.

Art selected by a jury will be featured on the interior of all MTD buses for roughly three months.

To enter, artists must submit a completed entry form and up to three digital images of original work by Jan. 13.

Online entry forms are available at http://www.40north.org/programs/mtd-art or at the 40 North offices, 106 S. Neil St., C. To have an entry form mailed, call 351-9841. There is no fee to enter. Artists must be residents of Champaign County to be eligible.

The program, called "MTD ART: Moving Pictures Through Your Neighborhood," features reproductions of works by four artists on the interior overhead panels of every MTD bus.

In the last year, 16 works have been shown. Now the art also is being shown in a new installation on the first floor of the Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign.

The installation features larger prints of the same works. The latest set of "MTD ART" works began running on buses Nov. 1; they are by Derek Winstanley, Beth Darling, Michael Buras and Laura Wennstrom.
