Folk duo coming to Urbana next week

URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival is bringing renowned folk music duo Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen in for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heartland Gallery, 112 W. Main St.

Tickets are $15 at the door.

Gillette and Mangsen have performed together for more than 20 years, celebrating their love of traditional music and their wealth of original songs. Accompanying themselves with guitars and concertinas, their live performances are known for rich harmony, compelling songs and a good dose of humor. Their duet albums have appeared on many folk Top 10 lists, from Chicago's WFMT "Midnight Special" to The Boston Globe.

Their latest effort, "Berrymania" — due out this month — is a tribute to their friends and talented musicians Lou and Peter Berryman.

The C-U Folk and Roots Festival is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion of accessible art forms and community building in East Central Illinois.
