Fulks coming to Urbana

Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out the Honky Tonk Holiday Show at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rose Bowl Tavern in Urbana.

The show, also presented by The Whip (WWHP 98.3-FM) will star Robbie Fulks and his band with special guests The Tim Carroll Trio.

"Fulks is a gifted guitarist, a soulful singer with an expressive honky-tonk tenor, and a natural performer," according to a review in The New York Times. "But what really sets him apart is his songwriting, which is one part artful country, one part artful sendup of country, and one part a little of everything else.

"It's sort of country meets David Lynch."

Fulks recently released a new album, "Gone Away Backward," on Bloodshot Records.

Tickets for Saturday's show are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. They may be purchased at wwhp.com.
